Friday was public holiday on account
of ‘Eid Milad-un-Nabi ( Sallallah-o-Alaih-wasallam). The main bazaar of the
town was beautifully decorated with buntings, arches and multi-coloured lights.
A one-mile long procession started at 5 p.m. from the town hall. At the head of
it was a pious old man, riding a nicely decorated camel. In his hand he carried
a green flag, with the kalmia written on it. He was followed by a hundred young
men dressed in green. They were riding white horses, with national flags in
their hands. Then came two parties of about 200 men each. They belonged to all
walks of life. They were reciting the Kalima and the Darood sharif. They were
followed by two groups of armed police and boy scouts. A band played at the
head of each. Then came a party of qawwals, followed by several others, singing
naats. These filled every heart with love for Islam and the Holy Prophet (
Sallallah-o-Alaih-i-Wasallam). The procession was indeed worth seeing. It ended
near the Town Hall at about midnight.
