FAHER AND I decided to go to Kashmir of a few days. We drove
to Jammu in our car on Friday last. I saw mountains for the first time in my
life, when we crossed the River Tawi. The Scenery all around us grew more and
more charming as we left Jammu more and more behind us. Hills covered with
green bushes and lofty trees, springs of cold water and scores of roaring
streams were well worth seeing. We reached Kud towards sunset, and had to stay
there for the night. It is at a height of about 6,000 feet. Before we went to
bed in its rest-house, we paid a visit to the bungalow in which Sheikh Abdullah
passed a few year of his imprisonment, soon after his dismissal from the prime
Minister ship of Kashmir. The next day we crossed the pir Panjal, the highest
mountain in the valley. I felt giddy, and had to lie down on my seat for an hour
or so. Passing through Islamabad and Baramoola, we reached Srinagar in the
afternoon. It is the summer capital of Occupied Kashmir and is a very beautiful
city. It is situated on both the banks of the River Jhelum. We put up in a
house, boat in Dal Lake, and visited the Shah Chashma, the Nishat Bagh, the
Shalimar Bagh, the Hazrat Bal Shrine in a shikara. These places are so
beautiful that hundreds of people go there every day. During the next few days, we visited pehigaam,
Gulmarg, Tanmarg and sanmarg. These are the beauty spots of Kashmir which is
really a heaven on earth. We felt very sad, when left this land and prayed that
is may soon become a part of Pakistan.
