JAMEEL AND SHAUKAT were fast friends. They went to the Jhelum
to enjoy a bath one day. Shaukat’s dog named Radcliffe accompanied him. Jameel
was a good swimmer. So he was not at all afraid of going into deep water.
Shaukat, on the other hand, knew only a fettle bit of swimming. Naturally, he
was content to remain as near the bank as possible. But, after a few minutes,
he followed Jameel. Soon he found that the current was very strong. He,
therefore, tried to return, but could not. He struggled against the waves, but
soon out of breath. He cried for help. Jameel turned round to see what. He was
utterly surprised to see him ducking at some distance. He also saw Radcliffe
swimming towards him. Before long it caught hold of its master by the collar.
It brought him back to the bank, before Jameel could reach there. People admired the dog for its courage and
faithfulness. Amongst them there was a doctor. He lost no time in helping him
regain his senses. Everybody thank God for sparing the life of my friend.
