The policeman
is an important government servant. He is responsible for keeping law and order
in which he is posted. He is the guardian of the life, the property and the honor
of the people. He keeps an eye on law-breakers and bad characters. He catches
thieves, robbers, pick-pockets, gamblers and smugglers. He controls traffic in
big cities during the day, and acts as a watchman at night. He traces criminals
and produces them before judges and magistrates for proper punishment. He is
not highly educated, but his officers rightly expect him to behave properly
towards the public. He gets about four hundred rupees a month. He can hardly
make bath ends meet. If he is honest, he does not accept bribes blue cap on his
head. He is strong and active enough to face all dangers.
