The story: A
cook once stood crowing high up in a tree. A fox wished to make a meal of it.
He said to it from below, “I have brought very good news for you. All birds and
beasts have sworn to live like brothers. Come down so that we may dance
together. The cook was too clever to be taken in. it said to him, “Uncle, I see
some hounds at some distance. Perhaps they are coming his way. Let them also
come here. Then I shall fly down, and we shall all dance together. “No, no
“said the fox. “ I smell some danger in their coming here. They may not have
heard the news.” With these words he ran away, and the cock again, at its
success in putting the fox to flight.
