The story: A
Qazi once heard a very strange case. A young man said that a friend of his
refused to return the fifteen pounds he had borrowed from him. The friend was
also there. He said that he had returned the sum. The Qazi asked him to take an
oath. He was ready to do that at once. He gave his walking stick to his friend
and swore that he had paid the money back to him. The young man wondered at
this white lie, and the Qazi began to think over the matter. Then he asked the friend
to show him his stick. He looked at it very carefully. After a while, he broke
it into two pieces. Down fell fifteen pounds out of it on the ground in front
of him. “ This clears your debt”, said the Qazi”, and now you can go away,”
