The ant is a very intelligent
creature. It is as wise and clever as man. It is of many different kinds. And
each kind has special habits of its own. It is a social animal like man, and
lives in large societies. Usually it makes its nest underground. Some ants have
powerful jaws and poisonous strings. There are still others that fight a real
battle against a smaller kind and when they win a victory, they enter the
conquered nest to capture the baby-ants as their slaves. Amongst them there are
workers, who are busy all day, feeding the young, fetching food, carrying
burdens and doing many other odd jobs. There are also soldiers who protect the
nest and make war against their enemies. In short, the ant is a very busy
creature. It is always seen running about, doing one kind of work or the other.
It is very industrious and can well serve as a model of wisdom for us.
