The Muharram is an important festival of the muslim. Hazrat imam Hussain (alaih-is-salam) in the battle of Karbala. He fought against the forces of evil and laid his life to uphold the glory of Islam. So the first ten days of the month of muharram are the days of mourning for the lovers of the grandson of the holy prophet Muhammad (sallahah-alaih-i-wasallam). Some put on black shirts, attend religious meeting and beat their breasts, in deep grief at this great tragedy in the history of humanity. They take out processions and pass bare-footed and bare headed through the main Streets of their towns and villages, weeping and cryning " yaa Hussain! Haha Hussain" at the top of their voice. The zuljanah and the Tax are the symbols of this holy war, fought by the great imam and his family. They set up sabeels and fees the poor, in honour of the memory of imam Hussain and his followers. There are others who do not beat their breasts. They also attend religious meeting to pay their homage to the great imam. And they also set up sabeels of hot or cold drinks, and feed the poor in honor of the matches martyrdom of the illustrious son of Hazrat Ali and Hazrat fatima. May God grant us courage to tread in their foot-steps! Ameen!
