The last ten
minutes of a cricket match are very exciting. The result of the long tail of
the two teams is about to come to light. When the rail-enders is at the erase;
the fielders, on their toes and the spectators, in a state of suspense fast,
with every ball that is bowled. There are cheers, exclamations and shouts of
applause people time were in their control! Some wish it to pass very quickly
,while the other wish it move on at a snail peace; and, with the last ball,
when the winning stroke is made or the last wicket falls, the hearts leap up.
In the twinkling of an eye, everybody jumps to his feet and, in an ecstasy,
races rewards the wicket. The postmen greet each other in frenzy. The
playground presents a scene of mad but merry riot.
good account of themselves, for we had made 197 runs, when our
rivals went in for the second time. They had to make more than 127 runs in
order to win the match. But their victory in the first innings had turned their
heads. They began to play very carelessly. Fortune favored us, and they were
all out for 93. We were glad to win the match.
