The story:
Once there lived a cheerful young man in a certain town. He always looked t the
bright side of things and said that even a bed thing had some good in it. If
his friends disliked thorns, he said, “It is good that they are there for the
safety of the roses.” If they feared death, he said, “I do not fear it at all
because, when I am, it is not; and when it is, I am not.”
One day he went out for hunting with
a party of his neighbors. He fell off his horse and his leg was broken very
badly. He was removed to the hospital, and his leg was cut off. His friends
were grieved to hear that. They went to the hospital to sympathies with him.
But they found him as cheerful as ever. He said to them, as soon as he saw
them, “it is good that I have lost a leg. It means a lot of saving. I shall
have to buy only one shoe in future. And a pair of socks will last twice as
long as it does now.”
