The
story: A young man
once hired a donkey to go to a neighboring village. Its owner as usual,
accompanied him on foot. The sun grew hotter and hotter, as the day advanced.
It was
shining very brightly at noon. He got down taking some rest. He sat down on the
ground under its shadow. The owner also wanted to sit there. But there was
little room for him. “Get away from her, “No,” said he to, “I cannot leave this
place, because I have hired the donkey.” “That’s true, no doubt,” said to owner,”
“but you did not pay me anything for its shadow.” In this way they went on
talking. The donkey took fright and ran away into the jungle, taking its shadow
along with it.
Moral: Don’t lose the substance for the
sake of its shadow.
