The story:
Once there lived a clever rich-man in a certain town. He bought a rare piece of
silken cloth and asked a tailor to sew a shirt for his son, in his presence.
But the tailor was cleverer than the rich man himself. He liked the cloth very
much and stole a piece of it for his own son. He hid it in his shoe and threw
it angrily at his son, when he came to call him home for lunch. The shirt for
the rich man’s son was ready before sunset. He gave it to him and went his way.
The next day his son wore it with
great pride, and went to the bazaar to show it to his friends. But he was
greatly surprised to see the tailor’s son wearing a shirt of the same cloth. He
informed his father, and the tailor was at once sent for. “How is it, “said the
rich man. “That your son is wearing a shirt of the same cloth I gave you for my
son? Tell me how you managed to steal it, and I will forgive you your fault,”
The tailor told him the whole story, and the rich man laughed at his
cleverness. But he was not at all angry
with him. Because he had told him the truth.
