The Story:
Once there lived an old man in certain town. He had many sons. But they were
always quarrelling with one another. This made him very sad. He longed to see
them living peacefully. He thought of a clever plan to show them their folly.
He brought home a small bundle of sticks. Then he sent for them all and asked
the youngest to break it. But he could not. After that he asked the rest of
them, one by one, to break it. Each tried his best but failed. Then the old man
untied the bundle, and asked them to break the sticks. They did so in no time.
This gave him a chance to give them a good piece of advice. “My sons,” he said,
“learn a lesson from these sticks. You could not break them, as long as they
were bound together. But they were broken into pieces, the moment they were
separated from one another. In the same way, you will not come to any harm, if
you remain united. But will all perish, if you are divided.
Moral: Union
is strength
