The story:
Once a tiger was too old for hunting. But he thought of a novel plan the feed
himself. He kept lying at the mouth of his cave all the day long. Whenever an
animal happened to pans by, he invited him to have a talk with him. He said
that he had given up his old ways of life, and was passing his days in prayer.
It an animal was taken in by his sweet wards, it came near him without any
feeling of fear or danger. But he jumped upon it, as soon as he thought proper,
and enjoyed a hearty feast.
One day a jackal came there and was
invited to have a talk with him. It hesitated for a while. But the tiger told
him the tale of his pious living and said, “I am feeling very only would be
glad to chat with an animal of your wisdom. These footprints are enough to tell
you the number of my visitors,” “These alone,” said the jackal, “have warned me
to be very careful in taking you for your word. I see them all pointing towards
your den, but there is none pointing the other way,” The old tiger hung down
his head in shame, and the clever jackal ran away.
