The story:
Two women were once standing near a well.
Each was waiting for her turn to draw water for her pitcher. Their
little sons were sitting beside the platform. One said to the ether, “My son is
like the moon in beauty.” The other replied, “And mine is like the sun.” Then
they began to discuss whether the sun or the moon was matchless in beauty. At last
the first said.” The sun is good for nothing. He shines during the day-time,
when there is plenty of light, and nobody wants him. But the moon is a blessing
to mankind. She shines at night, when it is dark all around, and fills the
world with a flood of light,” “And the moon,” said the second, “is nothing
without the stars. She appears in the sky with quite a new phase every day. But
the beauty of the sun is constant.” So neither of them could make the other
change her mind. A wise old woman was hearing their talk with great interest.
She said “Each is matchless in beauty. But the truth is that the light of the
day is due to the sun as for the moon, she makes the night very bright no
doubt, but the truth is that the is that the light of the day is due to the
sun. As for the moon, she makes the night very bright no doubt, but the source
of light is also the sun.” These remarks satisfied them both, and their
discussion came to an end.
