The Story : Two Arabs were once going together on journey. One Had five leaves of bread with him; and the other there. They met a stranger on the way. He shared their meal and paid them eight dirhams, when he departed. The Arab with five leaves wanted to give three dirhams to his companion. But he was not prepared to accept anything less than four. They could not come to terms and wen to Hazarat Ali for decision. He told the Arab with the three loaves that he should accept, three dirhams, because it was more than his hsare. But he demanded four dirhams, as his just share.
"If You want justice, you will get only one dirham. Now listen to me. If you divide each loaf into three equal parts, your three loaves are divided into nine; and his five, into fifteen. But each of you ate eight pieces. So You gave only one piece to the stranger; and your companion, seven. In this way, you are entitled to only one dirhams," This judgment was greatly appreciated by the two Arabs, and they accepted it with great satisfaction.
