The story:
Once there lived a lion in a certain jungle. He was so cruel that he killed
many animals every day. So they held a meeting and decided to send one of them
to him, every day, for his feast. The lion accepted their decision, and his
meal reached him every morning without fail.
One day they cast lost as usual, and
sent a cunning hare to his den, willfully stopping on the way; he reached there
almost at noon. The lion lost his temper on seeing such a poor meal, and
roared, “Where have you been for so long?” “You for your meal. But we met
another lion on our way to this place. He said that he was the king of this
jungle, and he called you a mere pretender. He killed my companion and ate him
up. Then he was going to kill me, too, but I have reached here with great
difficulty.”
The lion’s blood began to boil, when
he heared about his rival. He asked the hare to take him to his place, so that
he might fight the matter out with him. The hare took him to a well and said
that he lived in it. The lion looked into it and saw his own refection in it.
At once he jumped. The into it with an angry roar and was drowned. The hare
returned to his friends with the happy news. And the moment they heard it, they
began to dance with joy at their great good luck.
