The story:
once there was a famine in a certain town. People began to starve. A rich man
decided to feed a hundred children every day. They came to his house in the
morning to get leaves of bread for themselves. These were placed in a big
basket in front of them. Each of them was asked to get a loaf out of it. They
fell upon the basket very eagerly. Every one of them tried to get hold of the
largest loaf. But a little girl of eight kept herself aloof from the tussle.
She waited patiently, till they had all gone away. She was the last to go to
the basket. And the loaf that was left for her was the smallest. But, unlike
the other children, she thanked the rich man for his kindness, and took it
home.
This went on for several weeks. One
day she got a very small loaf. She took it home as usual. Her mother cut it
into tow; she was greatly surprised to find a gold coin in it. She sent it back
to the rich man. He said that it was the fruit of her daily patience. And he
gave her a hundred rupees as a reward for her honesty.
Moral:
Patience never goes unrewarded
