THE
HEADMASTER closed the school, one fine morning, to let the students and their
teachers go on an excursion to the river. We were nearly two hundred in all. We
reached there in four buses. We spread out the duries on the grass for us to
sit on. We had a tape-record, a transistor radio-set and a record player with
us. We began to listen to the recorded music. Some of us sat in a corner to
play at the cards. There were a few others who began to play badminton. The cooks
were races and slow-cycling competitions. There were also long jumps, high
jumps, and singing competitions. We had our meal at 2 p.m. it was well-cooked
and well-served. After that, a few of us lay down to have some rest. Others
hired a few boats and started rowing them to the railway bride. There were
still others who put on swimming costumes and entered the river to enjoy
swimming, for a short while. We assembled for, the prize distribution at 4 p.m.
it was presided over by the Headmaster. He congratulated us all for passing the
day so nicely and so joyfully. We returned home, a little before sunset. It was
a very happy school excursion.
