I WENT TO
the sanober cinema a few days back to see Tauba. There was great rush at the
booking office. But I managed to buy a ticket for Rs.1000. I went in and found
the hall almost packed to the full. The lights were swathe off, as soon as occupied
my seat. I saw a series of advertisements on the screen. Then came Tauba, with
Kumar as a drunkard. His servant robbed him of all his wealth, and the Hindus
set his house on fire, during the disturbances of 1947. His wife and daughter
managed to come over to Pakistan. She supported the family by swing clothes,
and Kumar passed most of his time in drinking. One day he heard a Q awwali
outside the shrine of a saint. It impressed him very much. He went in, put his
bottle of wine aside, placed his forehead on the ground and repented. His face
lost all its curses, and he began to look very cheerful. The servant who was
living like a very rich man was arrested for cheating, and the Kumar family
became rich once again. Tauba was one of the best musical pictures of the year,
and l liked it very much.
