WENT ON a picnic to the canal yesterday in three
tongas, with two baskets full of sweets and fruit. Our friends Pervaiz had gone
ahead of us with a servant, two tea-sets and some utensils. Tea was ready for
us, when we reached there. We enjoyed it very much with boiled eggs, buttered
toasts and sweets. Then we began to play at the cards. After an hour or so,
some of us began to play badminton. Others started reading the newspapers.
There were still others who sat beside the radio-set, to listen to recorded
music. In the meantime lunch was quite ready. We sat down to enjoy a hearty
meal. Pulao and qorama were nicely cooked and nicely served. After doing full
justice to these, we ate some apples, bananas and oranges. We returned home in
the evening, after paying a short visit to the canal head.
