THE OTHER day I went to the Mayo Hospital to see friend of mine. He was lying on a bed in a well-ventilated room that was very neat and clean. It was well-furnished and was provided with every possible comfort. The windows were fitted with wire gauze to keep off flies and mosquitoes. A bath was also attached to it. A chart showing the history of the patient’s disease and its treatment was hanging at the back of his bed. It also showed the progress he was making. A nurse was giving him an injection, and then I entered the room. She was followed by the doctor who came there on his morning round. A little later, a barer entered the room with the patient’s food arranged in a tray. It is a fact that one’s home cannot provide such comforts as are available in a hospital
