THE ROSE is a lovely flower. It is of many kinds and colours.
Some roses are red, some are pink, some are yellow, some are black and some are
white. But the pink roses are the best of all. They smell very sweet. No other
flower can match it in its beauty and fragrance. It is, therefore, rightly
called “the queen of flowers”. It grows wild as well as in the garden. But the
garden rose is prettier than the wild rose. It grows in abundance in turkey,
Iran, India and Pakistan. It adds to the beauty of a garden. Its garlands are
worn by ladies and gentlemen with great love. Its bouquets are used to decorate
bed-rooms and drawing-rooms. Its petals are showered over the graves of the
saints as well as those of our relatives and friends. Its water and its mixture
with sugar are very useful medicines. Its otto has a charming fragrance. It is
said to have been discovered by the great Mughal Empress Nur Jahan.
