THE TEA PLANT is an evergreen shrub. It grows well on the
slopes of the hills it needs plenty of rain, moisture and heat. Its leaves are
picked by women workers. They gather these in baskets fastened to their backs.
Then they are dried, roasted and packed in factories by means of modern
machines. These leaves are used in preparing tea, a favorite hot drink of this
age. People offer it to their friends and relations with sweets or eggs or biscuits,
in order to entertain them. It is a part and parcel of breakfast in almost
every family, rich or poor. Some people are so much used to it, that they
cannot open their eyes in the morning, without a cup of bed-tea. There are
others who take it scores of times every day. But they forget that too much of
everything is bad. It is a good stimulant and is a good remedy against fatigue.
It is an enviable commercial product of Chinna, Japan, Pakistan and Ceylon.
