HAZRAT
IBRAIM (Alaih-is-Salam) was a great prophet. He was called the “Friend of God”.
His father, Azar, was an idol-maker. He was born in Babylonia, the capital of a
great kingdom. Namrud, the king of that country, called himself good, and
people worshipped him. Hazrat Ibrahim (Alaih-is-Salam) hated the worship of
idols. All the citizens once gathered at a fair outside the city. He went to
their temple and broke all the idols except a big one. Placed his axe on its
shoulder and returned home. When the people entered the temple, they were
surprised to see their gods broken into pieces. They understood everything and
sent for their enemy. The king ordered him to be burnt alive. But God turned
the fire into a garden for him! Again, once in a dream, he was order into
practice. But the knife did not work, till God had sent a ram from paradise to
be sacrificed in his stead. The ‘ Eid-ul-Azha is celebrated every year,
throughout the Muslim world, in memory of the same event. He made the Ka’aba,
the first House of God, at Mecca; and the Muslims got there in the month of
Zilhij from all, parts of the world, to perform the Hajj.
