ALLAMA IQBAL
was born at Sialkot in 1773. He went to school at the age of five. He had
completed his study of the Holy Quran, before he passed the Matriculation
Examination. He began writing poetry in his childhood. He passed his B.A. from
the Murrey College, Sialkot. Syed Mir Hassan taught him with great love and
devotion. Then he came over to Lahore and got his M.A in philosophy from the
Government College. Here he was a favourite pupil of Dr.Arnold. He worked as a
professor in this college for some time. Then he went over to Cambridge to
study law. After that he got his Ph.D. from Germany. He returned to Lahore as a
barrister, but poetry interested him more than anything else. Baang-i-jibreel
and israr-o-Ramooz are some of his immortal works in Urdu and Persian poetry.
He had great love for Hazrat walled up in his eyes, whenever his name came on
his lips. He gave the Muslims of India the idea of Pakistan in his presidential
address at the annual session of the Muslim league at Allahabad, in 1930. But
he did not live to see the realization of his dream. He died on the 21st
of April, 1938, in Lahore, and was buried the stairs of the Badshahi Mosque.
May his soul rest in peace! Ameen !
