IF A
FOOTBALL gets punctured, we cannot play with it, till the puncture is mended.
This can best be done in the following way. Take the bladder out of the cover.
Pump some air into it, and fasten a string round the tube, lest the air should
flow out. Then dip the bladder into a tub full of water. Press it on all sides,
and rotate it to see where the bubbles of air come out from. That is the exact
point of the puncture. Put a round mark over there with a copying pencil, and
let out the air after that. Then dry up the bladder and rub the market place
with a piece of sand-paper. Then cut a piece from a rubber tube, and rub it
with a sand-paper in the same way. Apply a little solution to both the places
rubbed with the said paper. Then place the one on the other, and press the two
hard with the thumbs of your hands. The puncture is now fully mended. Put the
bladder into the cover, pump as much air into it as you can, fasten the tube
with a string and thrust it into, the cover. The football is once again ready
to be played with.
