THERE IS pin-drop silence in the examination hall. The envelope containing the question papers has been opened by the superintendent. He reads a question paper from the beginning to the end. Then he gives about twenty question papers to every one of his assistants and asks them to distribute these among the candidates. They hasten to do so. The candidates. look pale. The dread of the unexpected fills their hearts with fear. There is a regular tug -of-was going on, in their hearts, between hope and despair. When the question papers are all distributed, the Superintendent orders the candidates to begin. Then they take these up in their hand and begin to read them very carefully.
